Officials from the Ministries of Justice and Human Rights and Security, along with General Prosecutor Julio De Olazábal, met with James Cavallaro to analyze the new criminal justice system.

Authorities of the Ministries of Justice and Human Rights and of Security of the province, together with General Prosecutor Julio de Olazabal gathered with the President of the Inter-American Court on Human Rights (IACHR), James Cavallaro, in the city of Santa Fe, with the objective of analyzing the new criminal justice system.
On the occasion, the highest authority of the Commission praised the transparency of information and data in the province, after the joint work between different actors.
The meeting, which lasted more than two hours, took place at the facilities of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in the House of Government. Then, Cavallaro visited, along with the officials, different jails in the city of Santa Fe, where the IACHR Protocol for Imprisonment is applied.
The Commissioner was received by authorities at the request of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Besides Olazabal, head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Secretary of Human Rights, María Daldosso; the Assistant Secretary of Criminal Affairs, Lisandro Martinez Gorostiaga; and the Director of the Correction System, Juan Manuel Martinez Saliba, among others, also attended the meeting.
"Cavallaro was surprised by the number of officials who work together to achieve a transparent and consolidated system of data on statistics. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, the police department, civilian organizations, public health services, the judiciary and different municipalities make all the work seriously", emphasized Martinez Gorostiaga.
In the same context, the official explained, "The President of the IACHR was satisfied with the work carried out in the province" and said, “They will present a report that details the evolution of the prison system in recent years, in which the number of prisoners with sentence has increased considerably above prisoners without conviction".
During the meeting, Cavallaro asked about the operation of the new system of criminal prosecution, based on oral hearings, requesting data related to preventive custody and imprisonment capacity, among others, and in force since February 10 2014. Then, he also analyzed the performance of the after prison system, parole and probation, and the use of electronic bracelets.
