The Governor of Santa Fe, Maximiliano Pullaro, presided over the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Rosario, alongside institutions, social organisations, business bodies, universities and professional bodies, to strengthen measures aimed at promoting respect, inclusion and recognition of the rights of older people.
The event took place as part of the Month of Respect for Older People and brought together more than 200 representatives from different sectors of the community, who pledged to promote concrete initiatives to create more accessible, respectful and inclusive environments.
During the event, Pullaro highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and civil society organisations in improving the quality of life for older people.
“We want to work alongside intermediary organisations, retirement centres and universities to create better living conditions for our older people. Public policies are meaningful when they succeed in improving people’s lives,” he said.
The provincial governor then emphasised the value of participation and recognition for those who have contributed to the development of society. “The challenge we face is to stand united and work together to promote policies that recognise a generation that has given so much to Argentina. We want older people to be able to live in peace, comfort and with ever-increasing happiness,” he said. Commitment to respect and dignity
Ciro Seisas, the provincial senator for the Rosario department, emphasised that the initiative reflects a holistic approach to public administration.
“Governing is not just about managing resources; it also involves sensitivity and a commitment to those who most need the State’s support. Older people deserve respect, to be treated with dignity, and recognition for everything they have contributed to society,” she said.
For her part, the Secretary for Social Policies and Integration, Viviana Foresi, recalled that throughout June, activities were held in various towns across Santa Fe to promote the proper treatment of older people and prevent situations of abuse and mistreatment.
“We have called on organisations that work with older people on a daily basis to make concrete commitments. The signing of this agreement is not a mere formality: it marks the start of a joint effort that must translate into action throughout the year,” she explained.
A plan for active, inclusive ageing
The proposal forms part of a provincial agenda that includes training sessions, community meetings, and sporting, cultural and digital inclusion activities in various towns across Santa Fe, with the aim of promoting active, healthy and violence-free ageing.
During the event, the authorities emphasised the need to build a society that values the contribution of older people and ensures spaces where they can fully exercise their rights and actively participate in community life.
To bring the event to a close, the group “Teatro para Volar”, made up of older people and coordinated by Plataforma Lavardén, presented an artistic performance focusing on the rights, participation and leading role of this section of the population.
Among the institutions that have signed up to the commitment are business organisations, universities, trade unions, professional bodies, community organisations and civil society associations from across the province, which will support the implementation of initiatives to raise awareness and promote the respectful treatment of older people.
