The Government of the Province, through the Undersecretary of Tourism, nominated 12 Santa Fe towns to the United Nations (UN) to participate in the 'Best Tourism Villages' competition.

"With great pride, we can announce that our province has 12 pre-candidatures to this contest that recognizes towns that are models in rural tourism. They are Aaron Castellanos, Pavón Arriba, San José de la Esquina, Soldini, San José del Rincón, Monte Vera, Romang, Avellaneda (La Vertiente), Villa Ocampo (La Isleta), San Javier (Colonia Francesa), Moises Ville and Zenón Pereyra", explained the Secretary of Tourism of the Ministry of Productive Development, Marcela Aeberhard, and detailed that "this is a first pre-qualifying stage to then move on to the international phase".

In this sense, the head of the productive portfolio, Gustavo Puccini, remarked: "The engine for the country to move forward is in its interior. In the industry and in the countryside, and also in tourism, in its people and their drive. That is why we proposed these 12 towns, because they are an example of the potential we have to show to the country and the world, they are a model of wellbeing, sustainability and community spirit. They are paradigmatic cases of preservation and valorization of tradition, diversity and the roots that made us great. They are a synthesis of the best of us".

In tune with this international proposal, Aeberhard pointed out that the government is working on a regional plan to strengthen the identities of small communities. "We are currently moving forward with the Unique Towns program, which seeks to identify and promote destinations with unique characteristics, which preserve their identity and idiosyncrasy, embodied in aspects related to their natural and cultural heritage, their architecture, gastronomy, landscapes, religion and the origin of their inhabitants."

What it is all about

UN Tourism's Best Tourism Villages initiative seeks to highlight those villages that serve as examples of rural tourism destinations, with their recognized cultural and natural assets, and that also promote rooted products and lifestyles.
The distinction also seeks to recognize villages that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability in all areas: economic, social and environmental. The main objective is to turn tourism into an engine of positive transformation, rural development and community well-being.

To participate in the initiative, UN Tourism establishes three basic requirements that must be met: a low population density and a maximum of 15,000 inhabitants; being in a landscape with traditional activities such as agriculture, forestry, livestock or fishing; and sharing the community's values and tourism lifestyle. this international proposal
