Lifschitz assumed the co-chairmanship for Latin America of the UNDER2 Coalition in the United States

Governor Miguel Lifschitz participated in California, United States, of a new meeting of the Under2 Coalition, where he took over the regional presidency of the organization that works to fight climate change.

"Thinking about the future implies changing the foundations of the current production system to make it planet friendly," said Lifschitz while convening to join forces to "work in Pos Of more human societies where people live in harmony with nature. "

Under2 is an organization of sub-national states, working in consensus to fight climate change, promoting actions from each territory, but also worldwide. Currently Under2 is led by the state of California (United States) and Baden-Württemberg (Germany).

"We are part of a region that is making a great effort to contribute to the mitigation of climate change, although we are in a different situation than in the industrialized countries, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the members, understanding that there are no unique solutions or a single model to follow, that is why the importance of this coalition," said the governor.

“Santa Fe and the region have a productive structure and a demographic situation very different from the industrialized countries,” Lifschitz explained. “Our geographic characteristics, ecosystems and biomasses are our main wealth and source of opportunities.”

"Latin American countries are big food producers at the global level, and this impacts the way we use energy," he added. “Latin America has a comparative advantage in generating energy from biomass, and that is a mechanism we must develop."

ALTERNATIVE ENERGIES
"We believe it is necessary for our provinces to give a debate about biomass and its potentialities," Lifschitz insisted. “Santa Fe also has a great potential in solar and wind energy, which is also one of the region’s strengths."

"It is important to be aware of our strategic opportunities to attain an efficient use of resources and to contribute in the most effective and efficient way to the fight against climate change, this will have a positive impact on our economies and jobs, generating major investment projects," he stressed.

Finally, he commented, "Climate change mitigation measures are a tool for countries to transform their productive sectors, prioritizing the objectives of equitable and sustainable growth and development." “Thinking about the future implies changing the paradigm, rethinking the bases of the current production system to make it planet friendly,” he concluded.

UNDER2 COALITION
In November 2017, in the context of the General Assembly of the Subnational States on Climate Action, Santa Fe joined the UNDER2 coalition.

The organization has a president by region and Lifschitz assumed as representative of the Latin American region.

“It should be noticed that Santa Fe has been working on climate change for several years, which allows us to think about other forms of production and a collaborative system. The objective is not only to mitigate the consequences of climate change, but also to think about how to change the production system so as not to worsen the situation and transform it into a sustainable system for both the environment and society,” said Lifschitz.

GOVERNOR'S AGENDA
The governor's agenda in the state of California also included meetings with the UNDER2 Coalition technical teams, and meetings with the Chief of Climate Change and Sustainability Division of the Inter-American Development Bank, Amal-Lee Amin and with the General Director of the Under2 Coalition, Tim Ash Vie.
