It is a letter of intent in which both parties undertake to cooperate in the development of a programme for the promotion of agro-ecology and sustainable food production.

The province signed an agreement with FAO to promote sustainable food production

The Minister of Production, Alicia Ciciliani, signed this Tuesday, at the Experimental Center Angel Gallardo, a letter of intent with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which aims to carry out joint actions to promote the increase of sustainable food production and to encourage the producers in the agro-ecological reconversion.

The agreement establishes that FAO will make available the technical knowledge, good practices and methodological tools that might be necessary for the development of the programme; while the province will provide the human and institutional resources.

"We signed an important commitment with FAO to further deepen the policy that the Ministry of Production has been developing with INTA, which is sustainable agro-ecological production in peri-urban areas. Sustainable food with the environment and economic capacity for agroecological producers with research and development," said Ciciliani.

He also highlighted; "It is important the presence of the Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation because it marks a clear course of joint work between the two ministries, for which we proposed the day we assumed: innovation, science and technology applied to small producers, that is our commitment."

In this regard, the Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation, Erica Hynes, stressed, "Santa Fe has the productive impulse, but there's also a lot of talent, lots of Santa Fe science. This space is strategic for our ministry because we are in perfect harmony with all the actors nucleated here."

"I think that several groups of researchers can take advantage of this center to bring lines of study or articulate with the ones that are already available. From the ministry we also have different instruments and tools with which can help and motorize the projects that they have started to add value," she concluded.

For its part, the representative of FAO Argentina, Francisco Yofre, said: "The signing of this agreement opens a new line of work with the province. The aim is to overturn all the experience that Santa Fe has in agro-ecology and the network that there is at regional and global level with FAO. The challenge is to achieve sustainable production over time, bearing in mind that for 2050 there will be 9 billion of people and that we have the duty to feed them all".

ATTENDEES
Those who participated in the signing are the following:  the Secretary of Territorial Development, Mauro Casella; the Provincial Director of Territorial Development, Alejandro Marengo; the Coordinator of the Aquaculture Plan of the Province of Santa Fe, Marcial Bugnon; the holder of INTA Regional Santa Fe, José Luis Spontón; and the Coordinator of the Experimental Center Angel Gallardo, Ariel Belavi.
