Santa Fe electoral system praised by international specialists

In statements to the local media, the president of the NGO Transparency International, Delia Ferreyra Rubio, highlighted the effectiveness of the single paper ballot used in Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe electoral system was praised by the international specialist and President of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Transparency International, Delia Ferreyra Rubio, who referred to the electoral system of the province of Santa Fe: "This is the most advanced system at this time, which is the single paper ballot, and the system that most countries in the world use, in which the citizen marks a cross. "

She also stressed that the incorporation of the tablet that helped the authorities to write the minutes was very positive because it avoided problems with the legibility of the handwriting and numbers that sometimes were not understood, or other issues that happened with the minutes made manually; problems that were avoided by providing the table authorities with a simple tablet".

The president of the most important NGO in the world in the perception of raking of trust and corruption in countries stressed: "From the organization we have always mentioned Santa Fe as an example because it is at the level of the world's most developed countries in terms of how the vote is cast".

DIFFERENCE WITH THE SINGLE ELECTRONIC BALLOT
The President of Transparency International referred to the e-voting and stressed that "the single ballot is a form of electronic voting, which does not guarantee the secrecy of the vote, does not guarantee the integrity of the result, it is easily hackable, and, moreover, the possibility of fraud with this system is much greater than in any other mechanism."

In this sense, Ferreyra Rubio explained: "It is enough to use two lines in the software that are used in all machines in a country to alter the result, without having an army of people at each of the tables trying to cheat."

The expert also explained: "All these reasons promote works that many NGOs, professionals of the electoral systems and computer professionals make to clarify the situation".

E-VOTING IN THE WORLD
She also stressed, "Nowadays, only four countries in the world use the electronic voting system at the national level, most countries in the world have abandoned this system, which is not a new thing".  "In the 40´s some countries began to experiment, but the system has been abandoned, in some cases because it could be seen how each person voted and, with that, the freedom of the voter could be manipulated; in others, such as Germany, they declared it unconstitutional because the electoral system must be transparent so that anyone, without being a computer specialist, can understand how the election of the authorities takes place.”

"The Netherlands, which abandoned the e-voting system long time ago, has also quit the electronic counting for this year's elections."

To conclude, Ferreyra Rubio explained: "The intervention of these electronic systems is being discarded for the vulnerabilities of the system".
