The Minister of Environment, Jacinto Speranza, participated in the 51st Extraordinary Assembly of the Federal Council of environment (Cofema), in which the provinces that signed a commitment on climate change.
The agreement sets a position on the national policies of environmental protection that the national Government presented at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Morocco and which main topic was waste control in order to reduce the impact of global warming.
COFEMA MEETING
The activity had as objective, also, to address behaviors oriented to the preservation of the environment for Argentina to consolidate its leading position worldwide.
The conference was held at the Casa Rosada and chaired by Chief of Cabinet Marcos Peña and the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Sergio Bergman. Other ministers and provincial officials from the environmental area in Argentine provinces also attended the gathering.
FEDERAL CLIMATE CHANGE COMMITMENT
Environmental authorities from different provinces expressed their to the definition of a national policy on climate change in the frame of the National Cabinet on Climate Change created by Decree 891 / 16 and in articulation with the Federal Council on Environment (Cofema).
They also added their efforts to determine a specific contribution at the national level, which was announced on the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Morocco from 7 to 18 November 2016.
On the other hand, the conference wrote down the Federal Agenda that the National Government and the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation, as well as, the official delegation that represented Argentina, presented the federal agenda on climate change before the 22nd Convention of the UNFCCC.
The measures included were analyzed and incorporated to the national contribution, and will be regularly updated and communicated to the National Cabinet for Climate Change by intermediate of the Federal Council for Environment (Cofema). The National Government, through the National Cabinet for Climate Change, will seek to facilitate the access to international financing for all the measures listed in the national contribution national.
COFEMA
It is a space for federal meetings to address problems and the solutions to the environment in Argentina. The national Government and the provinces are the coordinating members at the same level of participation, with full decision and not subordinated one to each other.
The provinces and the national government lead a holistic perspective where local authorities can pronounce with a criterion that goes from the particular to the general.
