The Provincial Ministry of Health, together with the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of Rosario (Department of Urology) and the Secretariats of Health and Municipal Social Promotion, carried out the 'First Conference on Sex Reassignment Surgery" at the Centenario Hospital in Rosario.Professor Guillermo Mac Millan, a renowned Chilean professional, was invited to participate in the training. He is an urologist and pioneer in surgeries of transgender people who has devoted decades to perform surgeries to change the lives of many people and has contributed to promote sexual diversity as a State policy. |
The surgeon thanked the invitation to the meeting and stressed, "It is very important that the State is the guarantor of all these processes, since these surgeries change completely the lives of these people in a definitive way."
On his part, Rascon considered the training as historic, the first in the province of Santa Fe in the reassignment of gender and equality. “We are celebrating the fact that we carried it out jointly between the municipality of Rosario, the Province of Santa Fe, and the Faculty of Medical Sciences, which shows an integral work among all sectors".
PROCESS OF AFFIRMATION OF GENDER FOR TRANSGENDER PEOPLE
The objective of this Conference was to train surgeons of the province for a systematic and progressive process so that they can begin to perform these surgeries in Santa Fe public health services.
These surgeries, as well as the breast augmentation, mastectomies and hormones administration processes, are part of the practices of gender affirmation of transgender people, who are in the scope of the National Law on Gender Identity N° 26.743, being the State responsible to ensure the compliance of the law in all its dimensions.
