The Italian teacher Francesco Tonucci gave in the city of Santa Fe a conference called "Being a child in the city today. A possible territory between security and autonomy".The activity, which took place at the Provincial Cultural Centre, was attended by Governor Bonfatti and also the Ministers of Innovation and Culture, María de los Angeles González, and Safety, Raúl Lamberto.
"Being a child in the city today is complicated and difficult. Today the streets are empty, this means that public places have disappeared. One of the objectives of our projects is returning to the city public spaces," said Tonucci.
The expert recalled an anecdote in which "a child of Rome says the Mayor: 'I want the city to give me permission to leave home'. Children see that the city is dangerous and assert the duty of adults to provide a safe environment. This request must be translated into policies", he stressed.
In this regard, the Italian teacher pointed out that "this is a shared social responsibility. People should help to leave behind this condition of fear that paralyzes us, and in this, the media have a great responsibility. The street is safe if it is a social meeting place. A crowded and lively street is safe. It is important for children to return to the streets, public spaces, because they will then be safe areas. We must rely on children".
"The Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes them as citizens and makes them holders of rights." The most dangerous thing we can do is not being coherent and not respecting promises," said Tonucci.
Before the Conference, Minister González said that "it is impossible to build a strategic public policy without thinking about children and young people. The provincial government is doing so through the “Plan Abre” so it is very important a competent look as Francesco’s to help us".
On his part, Lamberto said: "If we want to solve the safety issue we can't have only a police point of view, but a society point of view, a State one, and it is necessary we all involve in these difficult times".
Then, the Minister referred to different programs running the Province of Santa Fe, as the Community Police, "which proved to be clearly an approach and dialogue, first with the children, then children with teachers, and through them to the State".
Lamberto also referred to “Plan Vinculos”, designed for cities to plan projects that improve security conditions together with all local actors, to strengthen families, schools, coexistence and, ultimately, the district, which is where one grows, develops, learn to live together and engage in dialogue with others.
And finally, the Minister of Security mentioned the plan “Back to school", an initiative carried out by the Ministry of Education with young people who dropped out secondary school, which requires tutoring and support, working with them and with the schools so that they adapt to this type of operation".
